Final Dress notes:

The Sound of Music notes:  4/’20/22

Act 1

KIDS:  if you still need white tights, email MaryChris at xmass@comcast.net and let her know what size by 9:00 am. Thursday.

Mr. Kays: “The Sound of Music” seemed slower tonight. Let’s check in with Maria on how she felt about the tempo.

Mr. Kays:  I did not hear your two-measure intro for “Maria” so I’m guessing the nuns did not either.

Nuns:  I was having a hard time hearing some of your singing which seemed to lead to problems with the orchestra.  Let me know if we need to run anything by the orchestra/Mr. Kays.

Maria:  when you were begging the Mother Abbess, it looked as if you did nog do the sign of the cross completely. Please make sure it is accurate.

Maria:  start to open the guitar case sooner so that you have plenty of time.

Kids:  make sure you show how happy you are becoming as Maria is singing to you and you respond back.

Mr. Kays:  Can you vamp the transition into Goatherd and have Kyler let you know when the scene change is completed.

Maria:  Don’t cross your legs.  While you were sitting on the bed you crossed your legs, and at that time every young woman would have been taught to cross at the ankles or not cross at all.

Kids:  make sure you’re not crossing the stage when the curtain opens for Captain/Franz to bring out the railing.

Mr. Kays/Sound:  I could barely hear the bells ringing before Max’s line about if there’s a cathedral nearby.

Maria/Captain:  your fight is getting better and better– the ballance between the Captain trying to keep his composure and Maria trying to get him to admit he’s failing the kids.

Kids/Captain:  good group hug tonight.

Henry and Jackson: Why weren’t you on for the waltz?

Maria/Captain:  hold that moment a little longer, still, before Maria says she can’t remember any more.

Niku and Sofia:  See me about another possible ball gown for you.

Friedrich:  do you have black shoes?

Brigitta:  do you have white tights?

Lights:  were we in the right cue when Max and Elsa spoke after “So Long”?  It seems dark.

Robyn/Postulant:  Do you have black shoes?  Also, don’t wear the black tights as the postulant.

S. Sophia and Postulant:  Do the sign of the cross and pray once the nuns have stopped singing until the curtain opens.

Act 2

ALL:  during intermission keep it quite onstage/backstage.  I could hear a lot of talking from the audience.

Mr. Kays:  When Max and Elsa go into their tango position in No Way to Stop It, there’s been this awkward silence where I can barely make out the harp in the background. Is there a way we can raise the volume for that?

Maria:  try to time your saying “Captain” as you enter the scene with Max and Elsa to when you are entering through the arch.

Maria:  carry your train with you as you enter the stage so that you don’t trip on it

Maria:  I don’t think you’d smile/laugh when Sister pulls out your nighty.  You could be anything from embarrassed to amused and holding your tongue.

Props:  we need a smaller basket for the flower petals.

Friedrich:  we can see your red and white striped shorts under the costume.  So you have something shorter, preferable in a more neutral color?

Nuns:  make sure we can’t see your hair under your wimple/veil.

Gretl:  Make sure you project your line, “Why was he so cross?”

Max:  careful of slowing down the “If those children don’t sing…..” section.

Maria:  careful of scooping your notes on the 16/17 reprise, particularly on the word “away”.

Franz:  You need black socks.

Admiral:  Your hair should be styled for the period.

Kurt: you were standing a little awkwardly during “Jam and Bread”.  Make sure you’re facing the audience.

All:  Reminder, during a performance we will never stop the show/call “hold” unless there’s a huge emergency.

VonTrapps:  Do you have back packs/satchels?  You should have at least a couple of travel bags.

Crew:  you can’t take your time on that transition at the end.

Crew:  for the curtain call, come out from the curtain area to get your applause, otherwise we don’t see you.

All:  keep looking over your lines and keep that positive energy going!

Comments

  1. Friedrich (Kirin) does have black shoes; unfortunately they were at the wrong parent's house yesterday when he left in the morning (going back and forth between homes makes it tricky sometimes to have the right items in the right house); but we'll make sure he has them for performances.

  2. Same for his red & white striped under shorts. He will have shorter, more neutral bike shorts by tomorrow night.
