4/18 Notes

 The Sound of Music:  4/18/22

Act 1

Franz:  You’re going to be wearing a mic starting tomorrow.

All:  I will teach the curtain call after mic check tomorrow, before we start.

All:  Sorry this information is coming so late.  Everyone will need a pair of black shoes.  Ballet flats/jazz shoes/character shoes/Mary Janes work for those whose role identifies as female in the cast. Jazz shoes/loafers/oxfords work for those whose role identifies as male.  The men will need black socks and the Von Trapp girls will need white tights.

Crew:  everyone should be in stage blacks, particularly if you are ever seen by the audience.

Maria:  let’s plan out how to make that change work now that we know what you’re changing to and from.

Crew:  we’ll need someone to take off Maria’s clothes from the floor while Sierra and Theirno take off the screen.

Captain:  It was difficult to understand  “...and Frau Schraeder”-- don’t throw it away.

Kurt:  careful not to futz with your costume and keep your focus front.

All:  check your scripts.  You’re starting to paraphrase or drop lines.

Mr. Kays:  we’ll need more changing music between 16/17 and Goatherd.

Crew:  The curtains are hung on the wrong archway.  They should be hanging over the one with the dresser in front.

Kids:  the curtains will be in the archway with the dresser and in the alcove

Maria:  during the Captain’s reprise of The Sound of Music, stay to the right of the “fence”, giving him even more space to have the moment by himself.

Baron Elberfeld:  You’ll want to style your hair like the photos I posted on the blog.

Brigitta:  Be more confident when you tell Maria that she loves your dad.  Stand still and tell it matter–of-factly.

Kids:  If Gretl gets ahead on her solo, just wait until the right point in the music to rejoin on “So long…”

S. Sofia:  Have some kind of business ready to do with the new postulant if the curtain does not open up right away (pretend to say a prayer over her/adjust her outfit etc).

Act 2

Kids:  you got a little behind on Goatherd.

Crew:  the benches need some touch-up paint.

Reminder:  actors can’t be in the house anymore during the show.  If you enter from the house, you need to enter  right before you enter.

Nuns:  you were in the house too soon.  You enter the house as Maria exits the stage and the MA and other sisters go to pray.

Maria:  what will you be doing with your hair?

Nuns:  Was the pitch problem at the start of Gaudeamus because you had been in the house for so long?  Whatever you do, commit to it.

Priest:  Can you avoid wearing your glasses for this scene?  The reflection off of them is distracting.

Nazi Guards:  You should be at your station at the start of the concert.  If you can’t make it for some reason, let me know so that we can think of a different time for you to enter.

All:  we need a back up “Trio from the Sangerbund…” in the event our guests don’t come some night.  Who would like to do this?

Rolf’s a meanie.

Family:  take a little more time adjusting your backpacks etc so that the last of your leaves just as they finish singing.
