Monday rehearsal follow-up
Hello members of our The Sound of Music community!
As you read earlier, we had an incident at rehearsal on Monday regarding a member of the custodial crew. This person came into rehearsal, voices became raised between the adults in the room, and this was done in front of our youngest cast members. This was an escalation from a previous situation where that same custodian was not following LHS policies of not cleaning in a room that is being utilized as well as asking us to close windows, even though LHS policy is to have windows open when people are present.
What you should know:
That custodian has been moved to a different part of the building and will no longer be interacting with the cast.
Principal Chapman was quick to speak with all parties involved and deescalated the situation.
I was at a doctor’s appointment and was not present at Monday’s rehearsal. A parent volunteer was covering for me in the auditorium and this occurred in the music room. Our assistant stage manager, who was in the music room helping with rehearsal, acted quickly and had the cast members come to the auditorium, so as to separate them from the adults in the room. At all times there was adult supervision.
We will be bolstering our supervision and be using a version of the “two deep” policy where all non-Lincoln students will be joined by two members of the Lincoln community (student, teacher, staff member, parent volunteer) when they are not in the auditorium or the music room.
We will have a full-cast meeting tomorrow at the start of rehearsal to go over these additional precautions and to answer any questions. I know that for some you may not be able to arrive by 4:00, so I’ll do a re-cap at the end of the meeting for anyone who arrived late. We will also be discussing the rehearsal schedule and what you can expect in the future.. You are all welcome/encouraged to attend. I take my responsibility to keep all of the kids safe very seriously and will continue to do everything I can to make this experience a positive one. Please let me know if you have any questions.
